Do Ultrasonic Pest Repellents Really Work?

A lot of people tend to wonder if ultrasonic pest repellents really work.

I think one of the most common reasons why people ask this question, is because they don’t really know HOW these products function. So if you’re wondering if these are a good purchase, and what particular brand is best, I’ll try and help you out.

What Animals Do They Work On?

  • Mice
  • Rats
  • Ants
  • Cockroaches
  • Mosquitoes

How Do They Work?

The easiest way to think about how these units work, is that they emit an “ultrasonic” pulse which deters pests from the given location. This technology works very well in many cases.

This pulse is too small to bother humans or pets like dogs and cats. It basically puts up a barrier from the area in which it is being emitted from, and in turn this deters bugs and small rodents from coming close by. It’s safe for everyone involved.

The range will depend on the product, but each device is typically good for one floor on a home. You might want to put a second one in the basement or garage. If you live in an apartment, one device is usually all you need.

My 4 Week Results

These ultrasonic repellents definitely work.

I know this through personal experience, and I know this from researching all the top selling brands, and reading people’s reviews.

We had an issue with mice last year (at the time of writing this), and we had a few options. We could either pay the local pest company for yearly maintenance, which meant they would come when we called, or basically monitor the residence about once every few months. I can’t remember the details.

Or we could invest in some affordable pest repellents, and see how it goes. We chose to buy some ultrasonic repellents and our mice problems have vanished. Keep in mind there are certain scenarios where you will need to call your local pest company.

Also, I understand this is a testimonial from a sample size of one, however there are thousands of households who have seen good results with these devices. You can read more about the brands that I recommend here.
